Our first coffee from Brazil comes from the municipality of Piata, in the state of Bahia. Piata sits at some of the highest points in all of Brazil, which has lower elevations compared to other famed coffee producing countries. This elevation combined with its proximity to the equator produces an environment suited for well developed cherries. Producer Alex Sandro was born and raised in this area and has been immersed in coffee production from a very young age. At age 15, his mother gave him his first plot of land to begin planting coffee trees. Since then he has continued to grow and develop his craft, regularly placing in the top 25 of the Brazil Cup of Excellence competitions.
His knowledge of the region and development of his craft have led him to make some unusual decisions, such as manually picking his trees in order to selectively harvest the cherries throughout the season. This attention to detail and hard work have resulted in a truly delightful coffee that combines sweetness and body that keeps you coming back for more.
